President Osoth’s New Year Message

New Decade, New Challenges

AS we usher into the decade, let us all reflect on the progress that we, the ASEAN Paralympic family, have achieved thus far which made us remained united and relevant. On behalf of the APSF Board of Governors and EXCO, I thanked all 11 member-nations for their continued support and commitment in shaping the future of the region’s Paralympic movement.

Since its formal establishment on 25th October 2001, the ASEAN Para Sports Federation (APSF) continues to remain steadfast and vigilant in fulfilling its mission of empowering Paralympic movement amongst our members.  For the past 19 years, APSF and its member-nations have strived hard towards the mainstreaming of Paralympic sports and movement in the development agenda of all ASEAN countries. Since its formation, the ASEAN Para Games have been staged and hosted regularly by our members, in the true spirit of ASEAN camaraderie. We truly believe in our common purpose of inspiring others, displaying courage, determination and seeking equality. We have seen and experienced 9 editions of the Games in KUALA LUMPUR (2001, 2009 and 2017), HANOI (2003), MANILA (2005), NAKHONRATCHASIMA (2008), SOLO (2011), NAYPIDAW (2014) and SINGAPORE in 2015.

As we approach closer to the commencement of the 10th ASEAN Para Games in the Philippines in March, we need to remain positive that success and the strong bond amongst us will continue to prevail and become stronger. The early hiccup which saw the postponement of the 10th edition of the Games from its original dates of 18-24 January 2020 to MARCH 2020 should not be seen as a major setback or dampen our spirit. It should continue to inspire us to remain steadfast in facing and overcoming whatever challenges ahead.

I called upon member countries to continue their support and rise together to ensure the successful staging of the 10th ASEAN Para Games Philippines 2020. The region awaits in great anticipation the action and achievement of our athletes who never fail and will continue to inspire us. In the true spirit of ASEAN Moving Together, let us forge ahead into the New Year with renewed sense and purpose as we seek to overcome greater challenges ahead of us in the new decade.

Happy New Year! Wishing you a great and fruitful 2020!

Best Wishes
Maj Gen Osoth Bhavillai
APSF President
